"The
Best Is Yet To Come" |
The United Deliverance Temple Choir started on October 25, 1995. Ruby Alexander,
our pastors wife, felt it was time to start a choir for UDT. Ruby
delegated Charles Hazlett and Bretta Nelson as director and co-director
of the choir. Not long afterward, Charles heard God calling him into personal
music projects. Charles left the choir to pursue his calling. The choir
then became under the sole direction of Bretta Nelson. Bretta delegated
two associates. She appointed her husband, Cecil Nelson, and Phyllis Hankerson,
as advisor.
As the choir
started their journey, the members were mostly made up of Christians with
little or no musical background. A small percentage of the members were
musically inclined. The inexperienced members of the choir remained steady
with determination and perseverance. Accompanied with consistent patience
and help from the more experienced members, the Choir experienced huge
growth. There was a lot of adjusting, members leaving and more members
coming. The choir has multiplied in excess of thirty faithful, talented
members and five talented, anointed musicians who can switch from one
instrument to another.
We, as UDT Choir members, take the choir ministry very seriously. We consider
ourselves ministers of the Gospel through music. Our mission is to lift
Jesus up. We all believe in living a life that is pleasing to the Lord.
Were praying that God blesses us with the anointing to make a difference
in the lives of our listeners. Weve been a choir for only five years
and we have much to learn. But we THANK GOD we have come a long way from
where we use to be.
Bretta
Nelson was born June 30, 1964 in Chicago Heights, IL. She married
her husband, Cecil Nelson, fifteen years ago. They have one daughter,
Ebony Nelson, who is ten years old.
Bretta has been in numerous choirs. The first choir was the Grace
Temple Church of God in Christ Mass Choir. The choir was under the
direction of her father, Reverend Alex Alexander before James Berry
took over the choir. Bretta was six years old at that time and sang
in the soprano section. She joined the Minnesota State Choir directed,
at that time, by Bob White.
She
then joined the Excelsior Chorale Ensemble directed and founded
by Carlton Wright. Eventually, Bobby Jo Champion took directorship
over the Excelsior Chorale Ensemble and Bretta helped with parts
for a short time.
After
several years, Bretta rejoined the Minnesota State Choir. This
time she was under the direction of DeWayne Hill.
Shortly
after her second career with the Minnesota State Choir, she became
director of the United Deliverance Temple Choir. Her directing
style is a combination of all the former directors she has learned
from and her own. She was blessed with a detailed ear for music
and a unique version of vocal harmonies and arrangement. She loves
and respects all of the choir members and musicians more than
they know. They helped her to grow by causing her to apply every
bit of knowledge she has learned from her experiences with previous
choirs. She hopes to make her musicians, former directors, and
most importantly her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, proud of her
accomplishments.
