For the Rest of My Days!
By Wylaunna Maddox

Keep me, watch me, protect my soul.
Because you're the keeper of my destiny,
The future you hold.

Teach me, show me, guide me to the light.
I was confused in darkness but you
Made things right.

Deliver me, heal me, wash me clean.
Take my flesh and temptations of
Worldly things.

You know me, had me, and gave me
Life. So you know with your help
I will survive.

Bless me, fill me, complete my
Everything. You bring me happiness,
You're the reason why I sing.

You knew me before I knew myself.
You're there when there's no one else.

So Lord, I will continue to give you
Praise as long as I have breath
In my lungs and for the rest
Of my days.

Mark Gravell

Written by Mark Gravell

It has been said that those who glimpse death have the greatest appreciation for life. Now I know what that means first hand. I was diagnosed with melanoma (skin cancer) on October 4, 2000. I hoped that it had been caught early, but successive tests throughout the next three weeks, indicated that it had already spread to the lymph nodes under my right arm, my liver and spleen, and my bones.

The cancer in my lymph nodes had become a large debilitating tumor that was growing at the rate of one centimeter a week, eventually reaching 6 inches in diameter. Symptoms this severe are classified as Stage IV. The recommended treatment was to shrink the tumor under my arm with chemotherapy and then remove it surgically. The oncologist gave me about a thirty percent chance for success with this approach. In addition, because my organs were compromised there was a real question of my survival. When my family and I heard this report we decided to look for an alternative that would be more promising.

November 5th was a discouraging day. I was very weak, on morphine for the pain, and not able to hold down any food. My father and mother came over to help me with various household talks. Before they left that night, we agreed that I would attend a healing school at a local church the next day. Here I received the first prayer for my healing. Feeling a little better, on Thursday, I went to the Healing Rooms, again to receive prayer. It was a powerful time of prayer and ministry for me. I really felt the presence of the Lord there and felt a definite touch.

There was a marked change after this session. The pain left quickly, I was able to eat and keep food down, and the tumor under my arm stopped growing. The following Monday I had an appointment to begin chemotherapy. Believing that a miracle had taken place, I called to cancel this appointment. I asked that I be able to wait for a month. The oncologist called back, strongly recommending immediate treatment. He felt that my life was in jeopardy, and that I did not have a month in which to experiment.

However, in just a week and a half I was back to work and feeling much better. It is now almost a year later and no symptoms have returned. Additionally, the tumor under my arm has disappeared. I am energetic and able to do all my normal activities. I believe that it was a prayer that caused this dramatic turnaround. Praise the Lord, I have experienced a real miracle here!

A Poem

This place we call home
Our mortal being of dirt,
Is a place that I'm learning
Causes confusion and hurt.

I searched far and wide
For some comfort and peace,
While all along, without knowing
The devil shortened my lease.

I had a lease with God
For everlasting life,
That's okay you lying devil
NOW, I'll stand up and fight!

The things that I've said
The things that I've done,
Have gone away like a bolt of lightning
My sinful ways are now NONE!

With the Word that I'm under
I'll prosper and grow,
The angels all around me
A peace I had never known.

I'll give my Lord and Savior
All Glory, Honor, and Praise
I'll no longer be afraid
I'll worship till the end of my days.

I once was lost
But now I'm found,
Is the phrase I will use.
The devil will never have me again,
Bow down devil you lose!

I hear the joyous sounds from heaven
as God whisper in my ear,
"My child I have you now, and forever"
The end is growing near.

So I'll walk the path with God
The path of light,
Where the darkness never seeks.
And when He comes to get me,
A perfect woman of God is what He'll meet!
